What Is The 1-7 Scale, How Does It Translate For Negatively Phrased Statements?

Employees respond to statements on a 7-point scale, converted by Best Companies into numerical values (1–7). The b-Heard Survey includes both positive and negative phrasing to prompt thoughtful, individual responses.

Employees respond to statements in the b-Heard Survey on a 7-point scale ranging from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree, which Best Companies then convert into numerical format of 1-7.

Regardless of whether the statement is positively or negatively phrased, a score of 7 is the most positive outcome and is the highest score you can achieve.

When asking a negative statement, such as ‘I would leave tomorrow if I had another job’, 1 equates to strongly agree and 7 equates to strongly disagree.

When asking a positive statement, such as ‘I love working for this organisation’, 1 equates to strongly disagree and 7 equates to strongly agree.

The score of 4 is neutral and represents neither agree or disagree.

In summary, the closer the score is to 7, the better. Ideally you want people to strongly agree with a positive statement and to strongly disagree with a negative statement.
