b-Heard Survey Champion Frequently Asked Questions
The role of b-Heard Survey Champion is to promote awareness of the survey, to help people feel comfortable and supported with the process, and to act as the all-important link between employees and Best Companies.
Within this article we provide answers to the FAQ's most commonly asked by Survey Champions. For additional support, please reach out to our dedicated support specialists on 01978 856222, or click the 'Get in Touch' button at the top of this page.
What does the survey consist of?
The beginning of the survey may ask for various demographics, followed by a series of statements that are answered on a 7-point scale – ranging from “Strongly Disagree” to “Strongly Agree” with “Neither Agree nor Disagree” in the middle as a neutral response. Statements can be positively phrased (e.g. “I love working for this organisation”) or negatively phrased (e.g. “Senior managers do a lot of telling but not much listening”).
Employees completing the survey online will be asked some additional non-scoring questions. At the end of the survey, employees are invited to give written comments to three further open-ended questions.
Is the survey compulsory?
The b-Heard survey is not compulsory and completion is entirely at the discretion of each employee. If employees are feeling pressured or are offered an incentive to complete a survey, please advise them to contact us on 01978 856222 or email concerns@b.co.uk.
When will employees receive the survey?
Your organisation will send out an announcement approximately 7 days before the launch. This will confirm the date on which employees should receive the survey.
How will employees receive the survey?
Invitations to complete a survey can be distributed to employees in the following ways:
- Email: Employees will receive an email invitation containing a unique link and login details to our online survey. The email will come from survey@b.co.uk.
- Login by post: Employees will receive a sealed payslip-style envelope containing a unique login code and the details required to complete our online b-Heard survey.
- Login by link: Employees will be provided a company link, by their organisation, to go to and complete the survey online. The survey landing page will ask the employee for their payroll number and then asked to create a 4-digit pin (to keep secret) for additional security measures. After these steps, the employee will be taken to the survey.
- Paper Survey: It’s a printed version of our b-Heard survey, dispatched with a cover letter and pre-paid return envelope for employees to fill out and send back. Paper surveys include a login code for any employees who prefer to take the survey online.
How long does it take to complete the survey?
This depends on the number of statements selected, however on average we would recommend taking around 10-15 minutes out of your day to complete.
Do employees have to complete the online survey in one sitting?
No. They are able to save and revisit the survey as long as they have not submitted it.
Can employees complete their paper survey online?
Yes. They simply need to visit www.b.co.uk/survey and enter the unique ID code found on the back of the survey. They will then be able to access an online version of the survey.
Will survey answers be anonymous?
By feeding back results in an amalgamated form rather than individually, we protect the anonymity of respondents.
Demographic data is used to identify patterns of engagement across a business, however this does not compromise anonymity. Other than the free-text answers that reveal why they may think your company is a great place to work and what could make it better, we don’t feedback responses given in individual format. Answers to the three free-text questions described above are fed back on an individual basis, however, no connection to any particular employee accompanies these responses other than their department (e.g. sales, marketing, IT, Accounts etc.).
To protect anonymity, we do advise that employees do not write anything in those boxes that would make them easily identifiable, for example, talking about a specific situation that only included themselves.

If an employee has deleted or not received their login code by email, can it be forwarded to them?
Under no circumstances should anyone forward their email survey invitation to anyone else. If an email has been deleted or not received, Best Companies can resend it.
Are surveys available in Braille?
Unfortunatley we are not able to offer surveys in braille. However, we have made significant changes to ensure the b-Heard survey adheres to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and ultimately ensure that the survey is screen reader compatible. These enhancements are designed to make the survey more accessible and user-friendly for everyone.
Some of the improved accessibility features now available include:- Improved navigation for screen readers
- Enhanced colour contrast for better readability
- Keyboard-friendly interface for easier access
- Clear and concise instructions
If an employee requires further support, please advise them to call us on 01978 856222 and we will be more than happy to complete the survey with the employee over the phone.
If an employee needs any help or advice completing the survey, what can we do?
Please ask them to contact us on 01978 856222 or email survey@b.co.uk.
Can employees make changes to their completed survey?
We are unable to unlock completed online surveys. The only alternative would be for us to make the original survey response inactive and send a replacement for completion. There is no way to make changes to completed and submitted paper surveys. The employee will need to contact us directly to request this.
How will we monitor participation?
Your organisation will be able to monitor survey response rates and break this down by each department. To protect employee anonymity, we will only provide data where we have 5 or more responses from a group or demographic, therefore, it is important to encourage as many responses as possible to ensure meaningful data is returned.
When does the employee survey close?
We recommend keeping your Best Companies survey open for a minimum of two weeks. However, the duration is entirely at your organisation's discretion. You can close the survey whenever you are satisfied with your response rate.
What happens next?
We provide workplace engagement results across eight key factors, giving your senior managers valuable insights into their strengths and areas for improvement. These insights empower leaders and managers to make meaningful changes that enhance engagement within your organisation.
